remove bottom in frame?

is it possible?

have to swap the bearing and sealing behind the drive-sprocket

Phil314 03-05-2016 07:12 PM

Even if it was possible, I don't think it is, it would be much harder.

It's easier and quicker to just drop the engine, flip it on the workbench, do the work and then put it back it.

+1

These engines are easy to work on when they're upside down on a bench... Bottom end and transmission at least.

so all i need besides the bearing and oilseal and bottom-end gaskets are 4 new gaskets for the exhaustpipes, right?

Conrice 03-06-2016 06:19 AM

Not sure on the F2, but on the 954 for example, you would also need new crank bolts because they are "Stretch bolts", which can only be torqued one time correctly.

I'd read the manual on that part first to see if you needed them or not, but yes, I think everything else you mentioned covers it.

not 100% sure, but...consulting a manual is always a good idea too.

You'll need both side cover gaskets. The case halves are a sealed surface so some hondabond sealant there.

You shouldn't need crank bolts, since you're working on the transmission output shaft. You should be able to reuse all other bolts.

You might want to check/replace some of the other rubber pieces to while you're doing this. It is a 20 yo bike at this point. And replacing anything with the motor out is easier.

It really hard to know until you get in there. I almost always end up making a 2nd order for more parts, because you'll find more stuff once you start working.

The crank bolts bolt through the lower case. Have to remove them if you want to split the case and get at that seal and bearing on the output shaft

Phil314 03-06-2016 04:43 PM

Yup, you are right. Crank bolts go through the bottom case. Not sure what I was thinking there. Been working on too many different things lately. I'm just going to go back to adjusting my valves now.

Haha, it's all good. I remember talking about my Jeep's "stator" to a friend while diagnosing a charging issue...

He looked at me funny and said , "What the hell does the starter have to do with it?"

DorkVon Waterfall 03-10-2016 10:37 AM

well, the manual says nothing about new crankbolts...the bottom end gasket kit B i bought had the gaskets for the sidecovers aswell...so all i need is 4 exhaustgaskets...and some time to spend for the "operation"

thx for your help so far, its appreciated
