Start at a grand and see what he says. It's been sitting for 10 years so he obviously isn't going to miss it. You may just be able to steal it seeing as its probably just in the way in his garage and his wife probably wants it gone.
He'll let you know pretty quick if he thinks your to low and go from there.

 

Well, I paid $1700 for mine. Ran like new with 13,500 miles on it and I thought that was fair, since it was a very clean, well maintained bike. Bluebook or whatever doesn't mean much. It's all about what you wanna pay and seller will accept, BUT, by all reasonable accounts, whether you want it bad, bluebook, collectors item or whatever, I don't think that bike is worth more than 3,000 TOPS, maybe 2,800. That's if it is in near new condition with the exeption of the dust and the 10 year old tar like oil you hopefully didn't start the bike with. If you have more money than you know what to do with, don't think, just buy.
