Race bike tips for newbie
 

Hi all, just signed up, looks like a great site. Iv bought a cbr600f2 race bike for the 'Pre 97' class here in Ireland, at the moment its pretty standard and after 1st tests its a bit off the pace (not that I'm that fast but the bike isnt helping lol) considering some of the front guys run ex-HRCbikes etc.
Anyway has anybody on here any suggestions to improve it (on a budget)?Want to avoid engine work at the moment.
Suspension upgrades - what other units will fit?
Has anyone fitted a steering damper - if so what type/make?
Quick action throttle - tried the cable tie trick but made no difference - any others?
Anybody fitted a quickshifter, can get 1 for good price on ebay, any problems fitting them?

Think thats enough questions for now, thanks in advance for any help!

Just installed a Hyperpro RSC dampener yesterday. 4 runs around my block, albeit 4 miles, in the cold with frozen tar snakes was not good conditions for a shake down. So until I get it dialed in and on track I probably won't be much help in a review. I will say this much, it better work great for what it cost.

Second on Tires + Rider. No way you could push your bike to the limit without it gripping and a rider that knows how to ride it.

yea I would say spend the most on good tires, If you find that the handling isnt enough...then you could rebuild the forks with racetech springs, seals, and emulators. Thats what im doing, Also you run a stiffer shock in the rear (F3, F4/f4i but this will raise your seat height anywhere from an inch to and inch and a half, or you could get an ohlins...little bit pricey) On top of that I would run a sprocket kit with lower gearing..something like +2 -1.other than that your cant really do anything that is going to make a huge noticible difference that doesnt require engine mods.....allthough i may be missing something?

yep that goes without saying, I can only get better with more practice andtyres are sorted. Not looking to make the bike the fastest thing in the world but theres only so much you can do with a bog standard 15yr old road bike with race fairings vs purpose built race bikes.

I can geta set of brackets to fit R6 blue spot calipers to F3 forks, do you think they will work on the F2?
Iv read some posts on fitting an F4/FX shock, so theyll fit with a lowering dogbone link? I assume then that an ohlins unit for a 99 FXwill fit alright...?

@Acara1796- how does the hyperpro damper mount, is it across the front of the tank or do you have to weld a spigot on the side of the frame?
