Problem with my choke
 

Hi everyone, thanks for all the good advice as I have been reading these forums for sometime. Here's the situation. I have a 92 CBR 600F2. Everything is ok for the most part, ok it's not but that will be for another day. My main issue right now is the choke. I bought this bike a few months ago and learned how to get it going by constantly adjusting the choke, it is getting old and I want to fix it. When I shut the choke off "pull the lever towards me", it will move really far past where I think it should move. So basically when you shut it off, you have to stop at a certain point or the bike will rev up and idle very high, when you get to that spot I usually push it forward a hair where it is reving at about 1500 rpms, but then it seems to jump up and down from there a little. If I pull the choke back towards me all the way "off" it will die instantly, what gives? I just purchased a Clymer manual but do not see this problem anywhere. Thanks -

Forgot to add, it has about 43,000 miles. THere is also a strong gas odor coming from the exhaust at all times,any ideas about that, suspect it has to do with my fuel system :D

You've totally lost me with your wording but Ill add how my choke works.

My F2's just shy of 40k miles and I have a problem with cold starts most mornings. When I do get the rattler fired up, I only need to move the choke lever about halfway to rev the bike to about 3k rpm's. If I move the choke to full bore the bike just sounds like its getting no air and cuts out.

If the bike turns over first time and I put on the choke and it goes to about 1.2k rpm and then after about 10 seconds it rises to 3k rpm. Its like the jets are unblocking suddenly and letting more fuel in.

Basically, the bike starts good for it's age. What should my bike idle at? Is 2,000 too much. And the smell in the exhaust?

Think my bike idles at around 1500rpm. I adjusted the idling screw until the bike was about to cut out then just turned it back a touch.

Ive never smelt what comes out the exhaust but theres no smell of fuel at all around the bike.

Your wording is a bit confusing. It sounds like you are pushing the choke lever forward to choke the bike and pulling it back to "un-choke" it. That's exactly opposite of the way my bike (or any other F2 I've ever seen) is set up. You have to pull the lever back towards you to choke it. You having the choke on most of the time would explain the strong fuel odor coming from the exhaust too.

When putting the choke on it should be towards you. With this mine will start right up on first click and it'll go from 1.5k to 3k and when it starts to warm up(20-30 seconds later) it will rise to 4k-5k and hold there. With this its a high rev to get it to warm up very quickly. After about a min of it just holding there she is good to go. I turn the choke off let it idle at 1.5k and I am done after that.

it almost sounds like u have a jet problem or one of ur floats are stickin

i just took my carbs off and put them back on and one thing i noticed when putting in back together is that the distance that the choke slide actually moves on the carbs is like half of the throw on the choke lever. its up to you how you adjust it, but you could have it so that the first half of the pull on the choke lever doesn't actually do anything on the carb or the oposite. In other words it maybe that going from 0 to 50% on the lever is actually choke fully on on the carb, or that going from 0 to 50% on the lever does nothing to the carb, and the bike is not being choked until you are between 50% and 100% on the lever.

I actually wanted to make a thread about this because i found it it kind of fustrating and it didn't seam right, but i saw no way to do anything about it.
