Default Painting Alternator cover

Hi

I have some scratches/grooves in my alternator cover..

Can I use some plastic padding/bondo to fill out the scratches, and then paint it with normal spray can paint ?
Or will it just flake off from the heat of the oil/engine ?

(you cant realy see the damage clearly on this pic)

oh and for filling the scratches, use jb-weld like bondo, fill them in and then sand it down after it dries
