OK. so Interesting problem with my cbr 600 f2..

Ok. so i'm new to the site here so hopefully this is in the right area.. I bought a cbr f2 a little while ago and a finally start it up after doing an oil change and replacing a few parts including both front levers, and i noticed the guy had a good amount to much oil in the bike then it needed. It starts up fine and goes but when i go to stop i cant seem to shift back into neutral.. i've riden other bikes so its not me. i can turn of the bike then shift to neutral fine but while its running where i have shifted out of nuetral and started moving even at slower speeds i cant seem to get back into nuetral without turning off the bike. Anyone know if this is the clutch cable needing adjustment or something else. Thanks in advance..

Ern is the right person to comment on F2.

But to start, how much free play do you have on you lever?

jfreak16 05-09-2012 09:03 PM

A bit. I mean to reengage i have to let it out quite a bit before you feel it start connecting..

Ern and comments??

Sprock 05-09-2012 09:37 PM

slack in clutch needs to be taken up imo as it's not fully disengageing

tut tut looks like Erns late for his shift :D

About an 1" freeplay is correct. Letting go so far off to engage may need adjusting. Hope that's the only thing needed. As what Sprock said, shorten the slack...see if it helps....you can adjust a bit on the lever, but most must be done at the clutch cover mechanism....

+ 1 on what you suspected, and what you've already been told - start with adusting the clutch cable. Though too much oil in the crankcase is baaaad, it wouldn't cause this problem.
I am curious, though, what RPM are you idling at?

jfreak16 05-10-2012 09:10 AM

ok. Yea so might be it i cant adjust it tomuch on my handle lever. how do i with the clutch cover mech.? Sorry, im still pretty new to the bike world.. i'm at around 1500 rpm..

on a side note what should i look out for if there was too much oil in the crank?

estate4life 05-10-2012 11:40 AM

1.5 idle is too high, when so much fuel feeding, difficult to change gear....

Set is down to 1.2 max....mine is at .8

If you follow your clutch cable, it takes you to your clutch cover. When you pull your clutch lever, you see the cable + mechanism engage (on top of clutch cover) there is a cable tighten clamp that connects the cable to the mechanism the engage to clutch. Loosen the cable clamp, fully adjust the mechanism arm, then re-tighten it....

Best if you have a service manual. Or you can start a new thread about clutch cable adjustment. Then other members will chime in. I've sold my F2 12years ago so I am lost too....I don't want to give too many advices when it's not my make & model.

But it's very simple...kinda like adjusting your bicycle brake line...LOL

Good luck and hope this (idle & clutch adjustment) will solve your problem

jfreak16 05-10-2012 11:58 AM

Ok. Sweet i'll try adjusting the idle and cable when i get off tonight and get back to you guys. hopefully that's it. i wanna say it started to drown out near 8k (need to clean the carbs) but il try and lower it to around 10k or so.

Lol and yea simple like bicycle brakes... So i'll make sure i've got an hour to spend trying to tweek the cables just right... LOL.

Thanks guys!
