Default Oil on bottom of air filter?

I just pulled off my tank to see if i had to replace my air filter yet, thankfully, not. The question i have though, is i had quite a bit of oil on the bottom of the filter, is it ok? is it bad? ya'll want pics to judge? I searched the forums and couldnt find anything, also googled it. As always, any help would be appreciated.

It's from the crankcase overflow, have you been over-filling your oil?

Naw, im pretty **** about my fluids and such. i always keep it a little bit below the full line, OCD i guess. i forgot to mention the bike got knocked over by some neighbor kids who later got reamed out. it just seemed a little bit more than what would come up over the pistons. Perhaps a mixture of that and condensation? Just tryin to figure out if it points to a serious underlying issue. Thanks for the quick reply.

How long was the bike on its side?

It would be possible for the oil to make its way up the breather tube into the airbox if it was on its right side for a few minutes.

Just wipe it out and if the filter is overly contaminated you may want to replace it.

+1, totally normal if the bike was layed out, nothing to be concerned with. Replace your filter, but don't clean the airbox, the oil is actually a nice sticky substance for particulates to get trapped in.

Thanks guys. I was hoping what little oil on it would give the K&N effect, without the price tag :P. Again thank you, took a lil of the weight off my shoulders with all the work this poor neglected bike needs. Might be light in the wallet in the end but ill still be grinning like a 5 year old.

HAHAHAHAHAA!!!! Nothing equates to the K&N effect. Save your pennies, it's worth it.

I'd like one, but i heard they can let more crap through than a stock and the stock dyno's better. if i can get some good input on it, i may just go and order one. Anyone smell a new thread?

Keep the OEM filter, I believe Ken (Kjohnson) swears by the paper filters and had mentioned something about higher numbers on the dyno with the OEM filter.

The dyno is your only friend. All bikes are different. If your particular setup is not going to benefit from higher airflow, then don't do it.
