With that said, octane increase does not increase performance. Not directly anyway.
Low octane fuel will detonate prematurely at higher compression. Higher octane fuel can be compressed more before predetonation occurs. Its the high compression motor that increases the performance...

If your bike has been sitting for a while, the fuel will lose its octane stability and predetonate. Adding the booster will stabilize it so it will fire normally, thus giving the feeling of more power when compared running on old fuel.

In fact, the less volatile higher octane fuel could reduce performance in a lower compression motor due to it not being at its ideal compression state for optimal burn.
What 74Demon said I guess I didn't really add the octane booster because it had been sitting, as much for the fact that it had a bit of fuel stabilizer in it, which lowered the octane (with or without stabilizer and/or "old" fuel, I never noticed any change in performance or behavior). The bike had been sitting for maybe 1 1/2 weeks. But I definitely noticed a significant boost in engine performance after adding the stp booster. It was kind of a spontaneous decision while I was at the parts store, which gave me noticeable results. Hopefully my machine isn't defying science

There are other chemicals in those additives as well. Perhaps they are making for the more explosive burn. If you increase things, like alcohol content for example, the burn will definitely be different.

Be careful using them. Your pistons and valves can only take so much of that stuff before they are damaged.
