newb has a question about f2

i found a 94 f2 for sale locally, and thought about picking it up.
however this is my first bike and have no knowledge about them, so i hoping to pick some up from here. as i said its a 94 with 36,574 miles, and has carcked front fairings from laying it down. thats all i know of it. for sale at 2000.

so do f2s have any general probelms from the factory?
Do they break down easily?
because this one has many miles is there any thing specific i need to look for?
is it worth the price?
how many more miles before it need something big changed? maybe the engine?
is it hard to keep maintainence?

its my first bike and do not need anything fancy.

I would not pay more than $1000 for that bike.

F2's are great bikes, but they are a dime a dozen. With higher mileage and damage it is nearly worthless.

is their a reason why it might only be worth 1000 to you.
so i can try to get the best price possible from the seller.

The official Kelley Blue Book trade-in value for this bike in good condition is $1400.

You say the bike has been crashed (and not repaired), so that depreciates the value quite a lot for an older bike.

There could also be undisclosed damages that the seller is hiding from you, which you cannot really use to dicker with the price but it is something that I would be worried about.

The bike is considered higher mileage in the world of motorcycles, so many things could be in a poor state of repair, granted that the seller has not addressed them (probably not).

A crash damaged high mileage F2 just is not worth $2000. The kelley blue book has it listed for retail at $2200, that is what a dealership would sell a GOOD condition bike that has passed an inspection, and they mark up the value quite a bit.

Well I would have to agree with hershey. I picked up an f2 about a month ago. 94 20,000 miles and only a minor tear in the lower left fairing. Oh and mo front turn signal lenses. Had new tires, brakes, rotors, and chain with recipts that they were professionally installed. I got it for 1500. It took me a weekend to check everything out, give it a tune up and fix a vacuum line an the idle screw. I will say that if you search craigslist and the local paper u should be able to find a decent looking bike for 2000

I bought a 93 with a cracked fairing for $1000 10 years ago. Sounds like $2000 is just too high.

Great bikes though!!
