Default New at this - Need help - gears sliping

I just got a CBR600 f2 1992 and is seams like it lacks power, it sounds like it miss fire alot and hard to start. I think I'm going to try a tune-up for this; but, for now my concern is when I drive it and I go into 2nd gear, it slips into neutral and think one time it slipped from 3rd into 2nd or neutral. Do I have to replace the transmission parts and gears? Is it a clutch problem?

Please advise!

Thanks!

not sure if this will help, but my bike was doing the same thing and I noticed that the shifter linkage was loose and wasnt allowing the transmission to go into gear all the way. I tightened the linkage up and it works perfect.

You have to make sure you're shifting firmly to avoid hitting neutral on the way to second. The slipping problem sounds like worn clutches or not enough freeplay in your clutch cable, possibly even weak clutch springs. You want about 2-3 mm of play in the clutch lever (measured at the point where the lever meets the clutch perch). If there is no freeplay, your clutches are never fully engaging and therefore will wear quickly.
