You got it - exactly the same process. Helps if you have someone helping you on one end or the other.

I tried using a mityvac brake bleeder and doing it by myself, but it didn't work that well. Grabbed a friend to help and had it done in no time.

I've had good luck with my vacume pump. One of the things I've figured out, go back
the next day for one more pass. It gives the air time to 'settle', so your're not dealing
with micro-bubbles. That second pass is how I get mine to be rock-hard.

I've also heard about folks, (but haven't tried it, myself) that push the fluid in from the bottom,
at the calipers, up into the MC. Makes sense, just haven't tried it yet.

Just don't assume all brake fluid is alike. Be sure to look at the cap on the MC for
the DOT rating. Do not mix-up 4 vs 5, they are completely different chemical bases.

I can't remember who (spicy maybe), published an entire, front brake over-hual post.
With a very good commentary and picture walk-thru. Do a search for that in the how-to
and general sub-forums.

Good luck, Ern

I'm an ex-bicycle shop mechanic, and still wrench for all my buddies. A lot of mountain bike hydro systems do it this way too. The hard part is bleeding the air out of the caliper itself, which still requires a little work, depending on the particular manufacturer's system. You'd end up basically ensuring no bubbles between the caliper and the master cylinder, then have to do a very short bleed in the normal fashion to try and get any trapped air out of the caliper itself.

All of this is done with basically large syringes, so you can use them to pull suction on the line if you need to. I'm not sure if they'd be sufficient size for a motorcycle. Maybe a vet supply place has some really big ones.

Any idea on how many ounces or CC's of fluid is in a properly bled front brake system?

No idea how much the sytem takes. I usually use about 1-1.5 standard sized bottles
by the time I'm satisfied, starting from empty.
