K&N Air filter and other issues.
Hey guys,
First I am doing some spring cleaning work on my bike and just put a K&N filter in my bike. I don't know if i was imagining it or not but it seemed to run worse than with the stock dirty airfilter in it. Any thoughts? I heard that this can be a problem unless you have the stage 1 jet kit from dynojet in your bike, which i don't. If that is the case i will just get the kit. I was thinking about doing that anyway.
Second i am up to 23000mi on the bike. Think it really needs the valve clearence done? I am sure i could handle the mechanics of it i was just wondering if anyone has done it themselves and if there is any tricks or tips to doing it yourself.
Third what about syncing the carbs then after the valve adjustment? Any special tools or tricks?
Thanks for the input guys.
Eric
P.S. 38Degrees here today, supposed to be 50 tomorrow! Ah minnesota riding weather.

RE: K&N Air filter and other issues.
When tuning up a F2, carb synch should be the last thing you do. Here is the order of a proper tune-up:
1. clean or replace your air filter
2. adjust valves
3. compression check
4. plug check
5. check ignition timing
6. synch carbs
Actually doing these tasks isn't too hard for a mechanically inclined person, but getting to some of the stuff can be frustrating. You have to take off the lower fairings to do it, and the spark plugs can be tricky. If your valves need shims, a shim kit can be kinda pricey. If you want to install a jet kit, you have to get it just right or your bike will run worse. Authorized Honda mechanics can't install jet kits (at least that's what my dealer told me).
If you're having a problem with a K&N, check your airbox to make sure it's properly sealed.
As far as tools go, to synch your carbs you'll need a carb synch tool and a tachometer that can read as low as 200RPM. Your bike's tach is not accurate enough to synch your carbs.
