Default Issues w/ aftermarket mirrors

Ok- my bike didn't have mirrors when I bought it from the PO, so I bought a set from DennisKirk that were "supposed" to fit.

They're Emgo-brand mirrors, and would look fine - if the rubber boot came anywhere close to actually seating on the fairing, but these are too short when you have the mirrors adjusted out enough to see anything other than yourself in em.

Functionally they're fine - but this gap is enough to just drive me batty, anyone else had this issue and come up w/ a solution?

My OEM ones do that too... I'll be looking into some nicer mirrors or just getting rid of them all together and risk the tickets.

The rubber boots never fit right. OEM, aftermarket, anyone. They actually never fit right from the factory back on the showroom floor. It's in a bunch of the old articles about the bike, heh.

I've considered just removing the rubber boot and seeking getting the arms anodized.

I know what you mean... I've got the same issue with mine, too. Best idea I've come up with (but haven't tried yet) is to go to my welder friend's house with a 6 pack, and have him cut out about half an inch from the middle of that shaft. Should fit nice, and since the weld will be under the boot, shouldn't be noticeable at all - except that it sits properly. Not exactly a priority for me yet, but I suspect that's how I'll cure it.

Lemme know how that goes - usually when I grab my buddy's Miller Mig machine, I can lay a decent bead - but I want to see how those cast mirror arms hold up to the heat on yours first.

I will have to look at what I have at home bought an extra set of mirrors. I think mine didn't have the rubber nonsense on them. I haven't put them on yet though.
