Help with stock jets but after-market filter and pipe
Hi all,
I have a '93 F2 and I am stripping it down over the winter to get it in tip top shape for the summer. I am currently cleaning out the carbs and I now know that the needle and jets are all stock (135 main and 38 slow). When I bought the bike it already had a K&N air filter and Yoshi slip on pipe.
My question is really for those that know a bit or two about jetting. How will changing the air filter and pipe, but not the jets, affect the mixture and how the engine runs? There's quite a strong exhaust smell but so I'm wondering if that is a reflection of the mixture being a bit rich. I would have guessed that increasing the air flow but not the fuel flow would actually make the mixture more lean though.
The bike runs fine, no flat spots, good idle and starting so I am not looking to change anything, I'd just like to get a better idea of how the engine might be running right now.
Thanks.
