So I am search of anew bike I recently ccame across this guy: CBR 93

Checked it out tonight, appears to be in very good cosmetic and mechanical order. Noticed a few nicks and scratched, but the only real thing that bothered me was the back suspension, when I sat down it felt to hit really hard. Mind you I am 6"1' 220pds. The guy who drove it last was around 5"9' 150-170. My question to you guys are:

1. Does my weight play a part on bike like this?
2. Is the rear suspension adjustable?
3. What I am lookingin terms of changing the seals, oil etc on the suspension?
4. Is there anything in particular I should check for on this bike to make sure it is tip top?

I will go back to see it again with a fellow biker probably sometime this week any comments suggestion greatly appreciated?

My f2 sags quite a bit when I sit on it...so I had the front fork oil changed but it still does it. The front fork seals were changed too.


The mechanic said the rear shock absorber is the culprit, but the bike is 14 yrs old so I was told to expect it to sag.


The rear shock I believe is nitrogen charged...so maybe you can have it recharged?

The spring may also be worn too though.

And the rear shock is adjustable but you need a special tool to do it.

 

Weight absolutely plays a part in the suspension. The stock rear spring is adjustable, with a special tool and there is a compression and rebound adjuster as well (on right side of bike under the seat). There is an excelent article (http://www.sportrider.com/tech/146_0402_susp/index.html) that talks about suspension setup and how to do it, but you will definitely want to spend some time (or take it to the shop and spend some money) on getting the suspension setup for your weight. I'd also replace the front springs since the stock springs are weighted for someone that weighs <150 lbs. Personally, I would try and take the bike to a shop and have them give it a once over. I did that when buying my bike and it saved me $300 b/c the front fork seals needed replacing and I would never have known.

Check your forks if there's rust pits....little brown spots of rust.

I heard those can make your fork seals go bad.


The mechanic can remove them if you get the fork oil /seals changed...

i have a 91 cbr 600 with 28k miles just had fork seals replaced 2 weeks ago, new tires 2000 miles ago, new chain and sprockets 3000 miles ago, bike is in really good shape other than a dented exhaust pipe and muffler, previous owner side swiped a curb with the muffler.. bike also has a tank bra, aftermarket seat, flushmounts, yoshimura exhaust carbon fiber rs-3
