if u plan on going through with this removal pleae let me know how it turns out. ive been thinking of doing it myself but iam not sure how much more power this would really give you. i have noticed the CA models are slower than the 49 state but iam thinking its got more to do with the camshafts.........

i dont believe u have to to simply remove the emissions crap but u will need 49 state carbs. u can find em pretty cheap on ebay.

The horsepower gain is minimal. For me about all the weight and the extra stuff that can go bad. If it was only dealing with the carbs and the vapor system not a problem but removal of the Air Suction Valve and welding the holes left in the heads - a bit much.

being i have a welder in my shop its not that bad to me. being these welds probly take about 2 mins id think if you toook em to your local mechanic shop it wouldnt cost you more than 10$.true weight wise you stand to gain a hp but u cant say weather the power increase would be significant or not unless youve done it. having said that iam guessing the biggest change would probly be in the area of throttle responce. my main concern is really with the difference in the cams, wether this would effect the overall performance after youve removed the emissions stuff i cant say fot certain after all the cam timing was designed with the emissions stuff in mind.

Hey guys,

As the author of the above link:
http://www.magneticdrainplug.com/Tec..._Desmog_1.html

I can tell you it does not give any noticeable HP increase. What it does do is remove weigh and make working on the bike MUCH easier! I started the removal because some of my smog parts were going bad and the bike would not run right. Since the removal, tuning the bike has been a dream! I found that the cams really are an important part of the swap. The full removal is a big job, but I found it well worth it.

Tim
