Gas tank question.

Gas tank question.
I am ready to take off the gas tank and sand it. Quick two questions. Do I have to do anything to the tank once it is drained, as in so no humidity or anything gets in it while being sanded and painted.
Question 2. Should I sand blast the tank clean or manually sand it to get stickers off and how far down with sanding should I go?
Thanks guys.

You can peel the stickers off by hand with a razor blade, If you have no dents/deep scratches/gouges in the tank you will only need to SCUFF the original paint with something like 120 grit, then sand smooth with a higher grit paper.
Do not sand down to bare metal, as the original paint has the strongest bond to the metal, and your new paint will have a stronger bond (less run) on the original paint.
Be sure to wipe it down with acetone after sanding, before spraying your primer.
Let the primer dry completely, then wet-sand and wipe clean again with acetone, then spray your base coat with light applications, wet-sand again and wipe with acetone, then apply your clear coat (light applications) and wet-sand yet again, wipe clean with primer then wax/polish and you're done!
The longer you let the paint set up between coats, and the lighter coats you apply - the better the outcome will be... Take your time, take your time, take your time.

What Hershey said..... DONT take it to bare metal. I used 180 (150 will be fine) to sand mine down. Typically you need your parts in 150-200 to have the primer adhere to anything.
Go over the decal until you dont feel the edge anymore. Then get the wrest of the tank.
No you don't have to put anything in it.
And I 2nd Camaropower
