Default F2 died...charging question..

Bike died on the way home from work..Did the r/r test and seemed to check out good with meter readings...Now the question: as I understand, the charging system starts after 5k right? So if you're cruising at say 3-3500 rpm's as I do my 30 min. commute home from work, the system will for the most part be running off the battery...right? Thus the battery needs to be on a charger to bring up to full level...
Thanks,
Ron

It would have to charge at much less. According to my manual, the shift points that they want you to ride around at would keep you at much less than 5k RPM. Plus, my battery would be long dead by now if it was really at 5k.

Assuming youhave fuel in it.

What do you mean by died? Does it crank?

If it just died, but the engine is not siezed and it will not crank, ie dead battery, I'm guessing bad wire somehwere coming from the alternator (or whatever they call it on bikes).

Came to a stop, and it died...I went to press the start button, and I can see the cockpit lights dim...and no crank from the starter..First thing that came to mind was the r/r...Since I was on an incline, I gave myself a push and thten popped the clutch...it started and I got home a block away....
I got on the forums here and checked some posts on the r/r...I got to a troubleshooting page and went through the tests...everything checked out great, so I put the battery on the charger for a few and it cranked right up...I took a short ride and everything seems good so far...Anyway, I went to Cycle Gear and got myself a Battery Tender...on sale too. So, as for now, everything is working just fine...Guess I just have to try and keep the rpm's up above 5k more often...
