Default Ever wondered our bike vs new SS models?

Have you ever wondered how our f2's stack up against a modern sportbike?

Say, if we rode an '06 R6 or GSXR?

How different would it be I wonder and would we never wanna go back to our beloved CBRs?

I've run against a 600rr, both of us piped. I was -1 up front and he had lightweight wheels.

He weighed I would guess a solid 40 lbs over me.

We did at least 10-15 rollons from 2nd, over and over. I would usually "jump" by maybe 1/2 a bike length, and by the end of 3rd he would walk by.

Occaisionally I would hold him back till 5th if he mis-shifted or didn't start in the right gear.

I would clutchless upshift @ redline 13k. Sometimes i would take it up a couple hundred rpms from that but it dind't make THAT much of a difference.

Honestly new bikes are so flickable and sweet. They do lack hp down, rev for rev, against an F2 but thats just because they have a higher RPM (more HP) but the same displacement. That extra HP comes at an expense (less low end).

I ran against a buddy w/an 02 telefonica gixxer 600. I was stock @ the time, he was piped.

When we launched well, he would always come up on me by 2nd and 3rd would be walking away.

Closest run we had was 11.51 @ 125 vs 11.55 @ 118. That MPH difference (HP) is HUGE.

F2 feels like CRAP compared to newer bikes but I like beating faster bikes w/a slower one.

You sound like a good rider...very experienced.

I thought the RR's weight a lot less than our bikes?

Good runs though!

Well, Just from ripping around the backroads and highways with my friends, I know that compared to: '99 GSX-R600, '98 ZX-6R, '01 TT600, the F2 is the slowest... But it looks so cool and retro ! hahah

I race w/a buddy on a 99 (I think) SRAD 600 gsxr. He's up 2 teeth in the rear to my -1 up front. We both have race filters and full exhaust systems.

Same Dyno I got 89 hp
He got 100 hp.

When his bike was street, we used to duel it out. His bike is much more flickable but also has a bulbous gas tank, the f2 has a narrow tank. I like the FEEL of a bulbous gas tank but in the twisties, a slimmer tank seems better for me.

Roll-ons. 2nd gear I always get the jump. 3rd we're locked (although my gears are shorter so I shift earlier). By end of 3rd he says he's reeling me in. By 4th he walks by.

@ track days if I stay in his draft and get perfect clutchless upshifts right before the limiter I can hang on. Otherwise he walks. I always outbrake him though so its cat and mouse all day long.

He weighs 165 no gear to my 125 no gear (yes LBS!)

-------
-------

Against another buddy who weighs about that much, also on an SRAD gsxr 600. Slip on, stock gearing I believe. His bike doesn't make as much power as the other SRAD and it shows. Roll-ons we're LOCKED. Occaisionally he'll pull 1/2 bike lenght over the course of 3 gears. I've locked w/him till 5th limiter (around 135 mph indicated)

On GPS w/my mentioned mods I have hit 144 mph. Speedo was pretty close too given the sprocket change I made as well. That was on reserve w/high tire psi front/rear. That was in 6th but it really ran outta steam, far from redline so maybe even shorter gearing may yield HIGHER mph due to being able to pull to redline???

Don't get too caught up in the whole weight issue. Not much you can really do. Full system, hack away all the useless plastic crap, take off passenger pegs, no mirrors, 520 conv. Everything else after that can get pricey! Lightweight wheels should give you a couple bike lengths, mainly in 2nd and 3rd. Rider weight difference can help offset some of their advantage.

To put it in perspective, my zx12 w/nitrous (around 215-220 hp) and I weigh 125 has virtually the same power to weight ratio (rider + bike vs HP) as this guy I know who has a turbo busa, 285 hp, and he weighs 320!

F2 doesn't have much power. I wouldn't shift any earlier than 13k indicated if you wanna get the most out of your bike. Learn your gear ratios so when someone runs up on you, you won't be a gear too high.

For example, w/my gearing the F2 can get to about 55 indicated in 1st, 75 in 2nd, I forget in 3rd, 118 in 4th, about 135 in 5th, etc etc.

Think about it: If 2 riders of = weight, skill, HP, bike, etc run on the hwy from, say 60. Rider A clicks into 3rd thinking he's ready. WRONG. Rider B clicks down into 2nd, matching revs of course. When they go on 3, rider B Shoots off. Rider B not only shifts into 3rd, but also shifts into 4th before Rider A does. Guess what happens? Unless they stay in it and Rider A drafts to pass, Rider B wins all the time. When running against a newer bike, if they're a gear higher, say 3rd on the hwy and you're in 2nd, you walk away but not much, you lock in 3rd and he comes around in 4th. 4th gear is 118 or so w/said gearing....and a lot of punks just don't like to take it that high. Don't forget, clutchless and full tuck. People seem to neglect the latter.

sooo... its safe to say that the f2 isn't exactly a world leading super race bike anymore.

Nope, but its all about using what you have to the fullest!

Even though I have a 12R on nitrous, I challenged a:

12R w/a pipe
929 w/a pipe
1000RR stock
K6 stock
Gixxer 600 2002 slip on w/sprocket

ALL to an 1/8 mile test and tune with my F2 since none of them will run me on my 12. I'm looking to take out the 12 guy....seriously! He's new to the strip and weighs 100 lbs more than me. The 12 weighs almost 100 lbs more than the F2. 929 guy should be close, the 1000 rr guy should walk me, the K6 should walk me and the gixxer 600 is my arch rival and good friend, he's the one who ran 11.51 to my 11.55 @ the 1/4. Hopefully in the 1/8 I can hold him back!

I will post up the results in a new post....didn't mean to thread-jack....but it is relevant since its about other newer bikes ;-)
