Default The End ALL of the CCT Questions

If your bike makes the gross noise, this is the first thing to replace. Everyone has different comparisons as to the sound, but it is a chatter, rattle, marble in your engine kind of noise.

It will happen when you bike is cold, or hot and building oil preasure.

It WILL embarass you when you start your bike in public.

You must go out and buy an APE manual cam chain tension from ebay for less than 50 bucks.

Once the fairing is off on the right side (when sitting on the bike), it takes about 6 minutes to complete. It works perfectly, and just about anyone can do it.

It is 2 8mm bolts, and you can reuse the gasket if you want. Start by removing the old one, noting how the gasket sits. Take your finger, and rub a small amount of oil on the rounded side of the new APE tensioner. Make sure it backed out all the way.

Put the new CCT into place, and start to hand tighten the rod, pushing it in. Once you get some sort of tension, stop.

Start your bike... the sound will make you nervous and angry. Hand tighten the rod again and the sound will become less and less. If you must, use a wrench until the noise stops. STOP.

Loosen the rod slightly (everyone recomends a 1/4 turn). Now, begin to tighten the locking nut until it it presses the small O-Ring into place, and is tight.

You now have no noise, and a tightly sealed APE CCT. I took my bike for a short ride, tested it through some revs, and made sure the sound wasnt there. Once it is all set, reinstall the fairing...

ENJOY THE WARM WEATHER AND BE SAFE.

Just bought mine off eBay ($55). Where exactly is the old one located? A pic of what needs to be removed would help, no doubt this sounds cake.

Find the clutch cover and the clutch cable. You cant miss it. If you see something that looks like your replacement CCT than you have the right place. It is only 2 10mm bolts.

Here is a picture of the manual CCT on my 92 F2.
Located on the Right side, just below the thermostat housing.
It is the red piece and the adjustment bolt is on the left.

I readjust mine every oil change, some guys do it every weekend. You decide.
