Default Custom Holes In Airbox?

While i was messing with my starter relay today something told me to check the air filter element to see if it was the cause of my bogging problem...element was a bity dirty but wasn't even close to the end of its life. Before i got a chance to put it back into the airbox i looked down and saw what appeared to be 4 holes cut into the airbox lower portion towards the front of the box...from left to right they were about 1 inch in width(left to right) and maybe 3 in length(front to back), 3 had been ghetto rigged shut with what appeared to be cut up tire innertubes and jb weld? the 3rd one was still open...i don't know what the heck it is but i know it was done by one of the two previous owners. Anybody know why this would have been done?

to let more air in...kinda like ram air. Its my understanding though the f2 doesnt run all that great with k&n's and so on so i dont think it would be good with extra holes in the airbox. I just gota uni filter and i noticed it runs um with a little less umpf to it but it could be in my head. i have a jet kit coming though so it should all even out. I would just seal those holes.

The airflow that the stock airbox is capable of supplying is much greater than what the engine could possibly demand. Cutting holes in the airbox will just change the air pressure, which will require messing with the carbs in order to run right. People may think that they are producing more power but in reality power is probably just being produced "differently," as in, the power range is higher in the RPM range.
So yeah, patch up your airbox or get a new one.
