Clutch lifter plate question

Clutch lifter plate question
I have a 94 f2 currently being rebuilt. I changed out the shift forks yesterday in hopes that my 2nd gear problem might dissapear but i ran into one problem durring the process.
I found that my service manual does not tell me how tight the bolts on the clutch lifeter plate should be. In the image below it is the plate that goes on top of the 4 little posts pictured. Each of these posts has a spring over them and the plate goes top of the springs. Just need to know how tight those 4 bolts need to be since I know they dont need to be torqued down all the way.. My theory was that the plate should be just under flush with the front of the clutch assembly. Is this correct? Thanks in advance..

I went for 8lb/ft and that was WAY too tight. The clutch lever didn't do jack after that. What I did was tighten them "snug" and try to put the cover back on, if it didn't fit flush (the piece that the clutch lever actuates lands too early so the cover won't fit flush) I tighten the screws 1/2 turn until it just fits flush. Not sure what the torque was but it's fine now. I installed a Barnett Clutch kit. Been over 2000 miles without a problem.

Cool Thanks guys for the input. Very much appreciated! I have everything back on but I still dont think I have the lifter plate quite in the right spot. I rolled the bike in gear with the cover off and the clutch engaged perfectly, but when I put the cover back on the bike would roll freely in gear as if the clutch were not working properly. I am going to do like you said and tighten the 4 bolts about half a turn each until the cover fits flush.
Thanks again guys!

Well as it turns out those springs did somehow work themselves loose just enough to cause some problems.. I put a stiffer set of springs on there so I am thinking that should keep them from backing out, sorta like a spring washer would function. We will see what happens but I think the problem is solved.
Now for my next problem, it seems as if the steering stem is very loose or something because when I hit the brakes the entire front end moves about 1/4 inch. To make it clearer, the rake of the bike changes everytime I hit the brakes but then goes back to normal when I am stoped. I tried tightening the locking nuts on top of the stem but it still seems to happen, this has me thinking that I did something wrong durring reassembly.
I will tear everything apart today and try to shed some light on this..
