Clunk Shifting Into Second?

Hey I got a question for you guys, from time to time when shifting from first into second sometimes it won't go immediatley into gear and i'll have to shift again harder and when I do it makes a horrible clunk sound (right after I shift it into gear and before I let out the clutch) so bad I can actually feel it, like I said I am using the clutch when doing this, does anyone know any information about this (oh and the more I wind it up in first gear the harder the clunk, when this happens).

i know these bikes are known for the noise shifting into second but I dont know if its that bad. Every now and then when I shift I wont get it all the way in gear and it will be like a neutral with... clunk clunk clunk but most the time its like 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th. Only when I dont get it all the way in gear.... from being lazy with the shifter.

Sounds like a shift fork starting to go bad -- either worn or a little bent. Not much you can do about it except ride with the knowledge that you gotta make super-positive shifts from 1st to 2nd --- that means take an extra .5 sec to insure it engages. Otherwise all the crappy "clunk" shifts will just make it worse.

something I also noticed I forget if it's either a left hand turn or a right hand turn but if i'm taking I think it's a right hand turn and shifting into second it will never clunk, and like I said it doesn't happen all the time but when it does you know something isn't right. I'm just trying to catch wathever this problem is before it really goes down the crapper and I have no bike. thanks for the imput transam, also if I try to EASE it into second gear when this happens it makes a noise like a click click click click similar to a baseball card on a spoked wheel, then I push harder and it clunks into gear, because I'm afraid of what this is I never go past 4 thousand rpm in first gear.
