Chain lube

Just picked up my first bike ever on April 1, it is a '93 F2

I noticed today when riding that the chain seemed dry (sounded sorta like rocks rolling around in water in a bucket when I started moving and was gone after I was above 30km/h). There was enough grease on the outside so I'm thinking it needs to be cleaned and re-lubed. Just wondering what you guys would suggest for lube.

RE: Chain lube

There's a variety of chain lubes at your dealer...most are great. I personally use Maxima Synthetic Chain Lube.

RE: Chain lube

Welcome Tanj! I've gotten good results with just about any lube I've tried. The only thing is that it flings the excess all over everything on the first post-lube ride.

Chain wax is another option. Just ride for a little bit, spray it on and let it setup for about 15 minutes. It won't fling after it "dries" but it just doesn't look like the chain is lubed.

RE: Chain lube

Well I picked up some Chain Wax today and some chain cleaner. I didn't read the Chain Wax label till I had cleaned the chain so I didn't want to warm up the chain with nothing on it at all so I applied the chain wax let it setup for 10min and to a 10min ride. I then wiped down the chain and did another application of Chain Wax Let that setup for 15min and went for a 45min ride.

I must say the chain was much happier after being lubed. Are there any other basic maintenance items that I should check? Bearings that need grease? swing arm pivot?

The swingarm bearings should be fine.RARE that those wear out.

Clean and lube chain every 300 miles.

Pull your plugs and look at them.Best way to check your engine's health.Go to an auto parts store for your plugs.I get a set of iridiums for $29 out the door, dealer wants $18 a piece.

Always use OEM oil filters. They use more paper than aftermarket.I don't care what anyone here or anywhere else says.I've proved it.

These bikes run best with paper air filters.EMGO sells them for 25 bucks retail.Like I stated above,I don't care what people here or anywhere else say,I've proved that also. The only time a high flow filter is beneficial is when you've done extensive engine work (Bored out, headwrok and cams).
