Default Cam Chain

So I am still kinda new to bikes and I am trying to figure out why my bike is making a clunking sound all the time. It just started doing it and I was told it could be the cam chain. So basically I was wondering if someone could explain to me how or if i could adjust/ replace the cam chain. Also i think my ignition timing might be off, is there a way to adjust this. I would really like to learn how to do things but is this one of those things I should save money for so i can take it to the shop?

It's totally simple to replace the chain tensioner. Go to the How-To forum and check out my post called "Install a manual CCT in a F2." It gives step-by step instructions and has pictures. If you were going to install a new stock hydraulic part (non-adjustable) the instructions would be the same, except you wouldn't have to do the adjusting steps. Just take the old one off, and bolt the new one back in.

This may sound stupid but... it is only the tensioner that needs replacing? not the chain.

It is very unlikely that the chain needs to be replaced. If the actual chain was bad, your timing would probably be way off, and the bike wouldn't start. If it happens that the chain is bad, I would recommend letting a motorcycle shop do it unless you're a skilled mechanic.
