Building a Bike

How hard would it be to build a bike from the ground up? like buying it in pieces? ie: the frame, subframe, motor, etc.?

it wouldnt be that hard.. ebay has most of the stuuf you would need, but it will probably end up coasting more than trying to find a whole bike

I agree, alot of sellers on ebay buy old bikes and sell it in parts to MAKE money so it probably would not be cheaper to buy parts. It may be better to find a bike with some major engine problems and buy it and put in a new engine and gussy it up with aftermarket parts. Beware of bikes with major cosmetic issues from wrecks though...they may have frame/structural problems that would be hard to fix.

I (re)built mine from the ground up because I crashed it. I cleaned everything, and replaced anything that was worn/broken. Basically I have about a 1 year old 1996 bike. However, If you do buy all the parts and try to put it together, it WILL cost you more than buying that same year/make/mileage bike whole. The nice thing though, is that you can coat/polish the frame/swingarm/etc., and do whatever mods you want as you install each piece.

Not hard....you can do it but it would cost more. I found a motor, frame, swingarm, engine carbs, wiring for an F3 for $200....and I'll still have $2000 in it....granted I sold off the extra parts and so on, so am not that far in.

You could spend a LOT of money on special hardware that goes with a given bike....engine bolts, front and rear axles...that type of thing....the pile of parts I bought had duplicates ofa lot of that stuff. You'd be hard pressed to do an F2/3for under $3000....and you can get a pretty clean bike for $3500....I just sold my 98 zx6r for $3300.
