bikes suck
 

So it's finally turned to spring here. It was a nice mid 60f day yesterday. So I thought I'd go for a ride.

Tried to start the XX. Click-click-click-click. Dang, dead battery. This bike is new to me. It's a bit of a mystery at this point. It's got several aftermarket things hooked up directly to the battery. One of them must have had a slight drain. So I shove it back in the corner and put the tender on it.

Next I walk over to the F2. I know it will start. It always starts. I know this bike like the back of my hand. I pull full choke. Turn the key on. Thumb the starter. It spins over and sputters a bit. I thumb the starter again and it roars to life and settles into a nice steady idle. I love this bike. Then I notice gas pouring out the bottom on the floor. Dang, looks like I've got a stuck float on one of the carbs. Arg, I hate this bike. So I shove it back against the wall.

So I walked over to the suzuki, kick it and muttered 'bikes suck'. Then got in the car left for my appt. Sometime you just have days like this.

I know not everyone believes in God but when I get those days I feel that it's his divine will keeping me safe so no worries in my world

No kidding. So I finally got some time to work on the bikes today.

XX has been on the tender, so of course it fired up and ran perfect.

Just for giggles, I started the F2. Guess what, dry as a bone. Now it's not leaking any fuel at all. And I didn't do a thing to it. Last time it was leaking from 2 or 3 of carbs. Now nothing. WTF.

So both are ready to go AND I check the forecast for tomorrow. 3-5 inches of snow - OF COURSE.

When Sh*t like this happens to me, I just accept it. I'm angry at first, but then kind of throw my hands up and say "this is life", I can't always be in control. I just find another route. Reminds me of when I first got my current F2. It had all kinds of minor things wrong that the previous owner didn't take care of. I didn't have the money, so I just rode it. One day I rode it 14 miles to my uncle's house. It was decent weather when I arrived, but when I left, it had started to rain. On the way home rain turned to painful sleet. The bike died on me 2 miles from home. I was able to get it started after standing in the cold for 15 minutes. It died on me again 4 blocks from my house. So I was forced to push a 400+ lbs bike up a steep incline for 2 of those 4 blocks in the rain and sleet. The next day, the sleet melted and froze inside everything, including the key hole, so I couldn't start it. I was forced to push it another 5-6 blocks to my garage. I have other stories, nothing major. But when it rains and it pours, just go with the flow. There IS a reason for it.

Chances are the rubber o-rings between the carb bodies are rotten. This happens all the time when they're wet constantly then sit for a while. You can get the o-rings at the parts store for $5 for a variety box and they will work but they will rot quickly if it ever sits. If you order the factory Honda o-rings which are about $10 for the whole set, you can let it sit for several months and get away with it. Repeat rides and lengthy times of sitting will bring this issue back again though.
