Default bike stalls out and dies in cross wind

It rides fine from idle to 140 mph, but when a cross wind gets going, the bike loves to stall and die, and becomes a pain to start back up

Maybe if I just throw a match in the gas tank? :-)

no clue, a cross wind shouldn't make a difference like that unless it's pushing a wire or something loose.

I was thinking some kind of turbulence in the air box or carbs. I have never heard of this before though. I found one guy on here who had the same problem with an f3 and I pm'ed him, but he posted last year.

Sounds like you have a plug connection loose. A crosswind...? Wow, that's the oddest thing I have heard of.

The bike dying in a crosswind only happens at 50 mph, 70 mph, 100+ mph. Must be counteracting the ram air effect by loading it up with air, or sucking all the air out leaving **** tons of fuel to bog it out.

I found this on a yamaha site

"Crosswinds can create a venturi effect across the intake opening. This will reduce the airbox pressure. (It's like blowing across the top of a beer bottle.) This is why modern ram air intakes have more than one opening, to compensate for the crosswinds. One of the original ram air bikes had a single opening and crosswinds created a dip in power that could be felt by the rider."

My guess is that much less air is entering the engine as the gust occurs, Lots of fuel+ no air = bogging/ stalling

Did this help you out? I've heard of people drilling holes in the air boxes for things like this and just more air flow.... My bike was a victim of this alteration.

I have done nothing to the bike yet, as it snapped a clutch cable when I was at Ray and I-10. Good to see another local on here. Im doing the clutch cable and ape CCT when I get off school tonight.
