Default Another "What's it worth?" Thread

Hi, I am new to motorcycles and looking to pick one up as a project to work on. I found the one below somewhat close to me and was wondering what you guys thought of the price.

Thanks

It says it runs well, but won't start from the electrical start, which makes me think a wiring or starter problem. Then again, I am not too familiar with bikes. I was thinking of offering $400

No worries, if I got this, a paint job would definitely be in order

If you could bump start it to hear it run and it does run well then it would be an OK price. I would probably try to get him down to $500 since you need to buy some parts right away (shifter).

I would try and knock it down $200 or so but I think it would make for a good project. You'll spend a couple hundred dollars getting it mechanically sound (new shifter, starter, coils, whatever is wrong) and then you can use any leftover money to put towards appearance. Check out the cost of fairings before you decide to buy.

But this would be a good starter. Chances are, you'll pull the bike at least somewhat apart in order to find the problem, which will be a great lesson on the mechanics of the bike.

Get yourself a deal, then BUY IT!

See if jump starting it starts the beast. It may just be the battery! You can jump start your bike from a car no problemo. If it doesn't start at all, it's either starter or starter relay. If it does start, but later dies due to lack of power, it's a stator or R/R issue. If it goes for a while but won't start back up again after being turned off, it's battery most likely.

The fairing "damage" doesn't look that bad at all, espescially if you intented to repaint the bike. Find out the milage.

That's a pretty fair price for a bike that may very well not need much work. Always offer less just incase. If jump starting it gets the beast going, and it doesn't die shortly thereafter coast in with it dead and say it died anyways! List off a few parts and cost, then make your low offer.
