It *almost* started... (or rather, it started)
My project F2 almost started...
I had to switch up some of the plug cables, since they were hooked to the wrong terminals on the coils... Now, with the choke fully on, instead of doing nothing when I crank it (and occasionally making a slight clanking noise), it'll rumble a bit after I crank it a lot, and it stops as soon as I stop running the starter. Right now I'm waiting for the battery to charge back up...lol Any ideas? I guess first I should pull the plugs, and check for wetness, wear, desposits, and spark. And maybe run a compression check while I'm at it. |
RE: It *almost* started...
100% chance the plugs are fouled.

Good...
I REALLY don't want to have to mess with the carbs. |
RE: It *almost* started...
I'd give it the 100% chance that it's the carbs, not the plugs.
Plugs dont foul themselves ;) |
RE: It *almost* started...
They do when you crank the bike with the plugs firing in the wrong order... probably dripping with fuel by now.

RE: It *almost* started...
yea my bike randomly didnt start anymore one day...it turned out to be a combo of the two..the float valve in one of the carbs was stuck open...which was flooding my engine..and from me running the bike this way and not knowing plus cranking it all flooded it fouled all of the plugs. Also while youve got it apart id check out your voltage regulator...thats the only other problem ive had...the stock plastic peice that pluged into it burnt to a crisp and i coulndt figure out why my battery was dying while i was riding.....i just got some of those little pin connectors from autozone and that fixed it.

It runs!
It made a hell of a noise with no muffler on it...lol At the moment I'm confused as to whether the Choke is ON (ie, closed) when the lever is TIGHT or LOOSE. Once it warmed up, it only wants to run (and with a higher idle) when the lever/cable is tight. Also, how long does it take the radiator fan to come on? The headers are already hot enough to melt zip-ties so I figure it shouldn't take as long as it has (it hasn't come on yet). |
RE: It *almost* started...
When the cable's tight, i think the choke's on.
|
RE: It *almost* started...
At the moment, it's got some hard starting (only starts at full throttle), cuts off if I turn the choke off, and it cuts off after a while.

Carbs :D
When the choke is pulled down it's on. Fan comes on when it's really hot, mine doesn't come on until my bike has been sitting for like 1/2 hour running with no wind circulation. |
