All My Balls... are taperred
I just got the All ***** taperred bearings for the steering head and front wheel. I see the articles about removing the front wheel bearings and it looks pretty straight forward. Done em on my truck which has a crap load more to do and think about so this should be a breeze. My only problem is the parts I got and All ***** is closed now so I can't ask before I get home. Stands just came in and if I can tear this apart with ease and have em installed ready to ride tomorrow, I want it done!!!! otherwise if it takes more than what I got, I'll be waiting till the weekend to see if my vibration goes away...
I have two rubber seals that are the same size as the bearings. I'm going to take a logical guess and say these will go on the outside facing the real world. The part I'm wondering about is this rubber ring. It has a closed side and indented side just like a normal seal, it even has the same retention spring around the inside track so it can compress on something. This ring is larger than the main seals and bearings but thinner than them (about 2-3mm in thickness), in fact the bearing fits right inside this ring, with a bit of space all around. WTF is this? I saw something about a spacer but in my mind this is not a spacer, it's another seal.
One other question. The wheel bearings are sealed on both sides and that's how they came. The steering head bearings came greased so I'm assuming these are greased inside. Do I grease em anyways? Not looking for a yeah sure that's normally what I do, I'm curious if I really should cuz if I don't then I don't want a terrible disaster of a mess next time I see inside of the bearing housing.
