Alarm for an F2?

I may have to move from my house where I have my bike in the garage nightly to an apartment or somewhere else where my bike will have to be out in the open at night. It does not have an alarm and I'm wondering what you guys all use? I have found several alarms recommended, but theyall seem to be more based on the fuel injected newer ones and have all sorts of stuff for disable and other newer controls. (along with factory type connnectors)

Thx,
Mike

So what happened or didn't happenwith the alarm that caused it to blow fuses. Also, how did it work for you? Did this alarm have the feature that if it got stolen the cops could find it, or would I have to buy something different for that? I don't need remote start or anything and just want a basic alarm and the ability for the cops to track the bike quickly.

I wouldn't get an alarm if you're just worried about it being stolen while parked at your apartment. Get a disc lock and a HUGE motorcycle-lock chain to chain that bad boy to a lamp post or something.

i remember what was blowing the fuses now... i ran out of black wire to extend the ground and used a red wire, then after a while i forgot and hooked the ground where the pos was supposed to go..

i know, i know.[:@]but thats what the problem was. but since i keep the bike in the living room, i took it off and that was that..

I've been thinking about that. I already have a disk lock that I can take with me wherever. I've been looking at the nice chains and stuff and they are heavy as hell. Cost a bunch too, so I was thinking a steel cable while at home and the alarm to make some noise.

Problem is, I'd have to have some sort of backup battery or something cause all one would have to do is lift the seat off and either cut or loosen the pos cable and the alarm would stop and the theives would just roll it away. I'm sure there isn't a huge theif market for a 15 year old CBR with 30k miles on it, but all it takes is one A-hole to ruin your day.

Started looking at the lojack and it seems like a great idea, but you can't do it yourself and from what I've seen it's pretty pricey unless you have a newer bike.

that alarm that i had was wired into 2 hot wires. 1 for pos and 1 for the remote start, and if one of the wires gets cut that triggers it too.

I guess what I was concerned about was just disconnecting the battery cable. That would defeat the whole two wire thing.

I did find a Talon 2200i system that seems reasonable. It's about $130 but it has a battery backup that will work if someone clips the battery cable. They also sell a harness that plugs right into factory wiring so I wouldn't have to cut into the wiring. (other systems I have looked at don't have harnesses for the F2) It's also got an extra sensor wire that I could use to have the alarm go off if someone was to remove the seat or some other item on the bike. Reviews I have read so far seem favorable, but i'm going to keep checking for a while.

<edit> well I just talked to a guy at Talon and they are all out of the 2200 systems and they will have new 3300 systems coming out in a month or two. Apparently there are some upgrades to the system and it will cost maybe $10 more for the alarm. I think I am going to hold out and look at getting the new one as one of the new features is being able to tie into the cycle's horn. I know on mine it's pretty darn loud, and if I can possibly save the space or having two sirens, it may be worth it. Hopefully I'll have the bike when the system comes out and will be able to install and post a review.
