94 F2 Makes sounds in neutral.. MP3 included

Hey guys,

First post to the forum. I have a 1994 CBR F2 that makes a ratchety sound when I put it in neutral with the clutch held in. When I release the clutch it gets a little worse. If I rev the engine relatively quick it will make a ratchet sound up to about 2500 RPM or so and stops when the revs go higher.

The bike makes no noise when I am in gear, only in neutral. My chain has seen better days and is kind of rusty and makes noises when I ride, but I know that that is not it because the sounds happen at standstill. Any suggestions on what it might be? I love this bike and would hate for it to crap out on me at the wrong time...

I made an mp3 of me goosing the engine. The quality is crappy because i recorded it on my phone and then had to record the phone output via mic.
I listed the mp3 at my yahoo site:
neutralnoise.mp3

are you the original owner of the 600 ?? and how many miles on it.....from what i could make out...it sounds like a tranny problem...gears excessive wear or broken teeth...may need to have the tranny taken apart and look at the gears....and one more thing.even thought its not related to the "sounds" change the chain b-4 it breaks...

sounds like a tranny problem to me, I'm a car and truck mech. but it sounds like the clutches are moving the gears closer together. NOT GOOD
