94 f2 brakes/alternator
hey,
i had a question about my brakes, maybe someone can help me. when i slow down from say... 45 and i get to 10 5, my brakes hum. they used to squeak and then hum, but i cleaned them of and now they just hum like the disc is vibrating. is this normal, and if not what can i do to fix it. it isnt major, but it is annoying and emarising. the pads are pretty new.
also, when i am riding, every once in a while my lights will dim, as if the alternator shuts off. i will just be cruizing and they dim. i havent figured out what triggers it, i think just bumps in the road. this doesnt mean my rectifier is bad does it?? i checked for any loose connections, and the one going to the rectifier seamed to be loose, but im not sure if it fixed it cause i can only see the lights dim at night. any feedback would help.
thanks
Kevin M

RE: 94 f2 brakes/alternator
Hello, I'm not a cycle mechanic but, I would run your bike by a cycle shop and have them take a quick look at your brakes. Just to be on the safe side. Now, the lights dimming sounds like a loose connection or something is drawing alot of current. Get yourself some of that dielectric grease and pack all of your connections. See if that helps. If it doesn't, then I would say something's drawing too much current at times.

i am no cycle mechanic either, but i am a car mechanic. i had the brakes apart and everything checks out ok. the pads look like they are brand new. the only thing i can come up with is that the surface of the disk is making it hum, can i get this disk machined? is there a way to take off some of the gloss? if any body could help that would be great. thanks

Try smearing some anti squeal grease (copper grease) to the BACK of the brake pads.

You need to get the seat off and look in the connector box under it (if front of the battery tray nearer the engine)
Remove the connectors 1 by one and clean them as they are often over looked and suffer corrosion (Copper suphate (blue powdery stuff))
I had a similar problem here too. (Wd40 did the trick)
good luck.
