No, no, its absolutely needed. But with all of the negativity out there regarding running open exhausts, I was surprised how well my bike ran after I got it tuned up.

When you start to part out that F3, let me know

Ah I see. I was wondering if you meant I didn't need to buy the kit.
I've read a lot of back and forth in regards to exhaust for bikes.
I've seen enough youtube vids and seen enough threads online to know that others have used glasspacks and such and come out ok.
Plus I've already spent more than I intended on maintenance items.
If I can get by for $35 on the exhaust, then so be it.
It will be at least a tiny bit better than NO muffler.

I'm technically parting out the F3 now, locally on craigslist, but I don't have the required number of posts to sell on here yet.
I'm in no rush, and CL people never want to pay enough, so I'm sure I'll be sitting on parts long enough to post them here.

So I finally went to drop the motor today.
Disconnected all the remaining wires.
Put some blocks of wood right up under the motor.
Started removing bolts.
Suddenly I found myself with all bolts removed, but the motor had only slightly adjusted.
I kept looking around the motor and frame, wondering If I missed one. That's when I stared at the locking collar nut on the "hanger adjusting bolt".
I didn't know what It was, but after looking closely, I could tell the motor was hanging on it. So I took a ratchet strap, crossed it over the top of the frame, and hooked the ends to the front motor mounts to pull it back up and replace some of the bolts.

Now I need to get a damn 12mm allen key :/

Teach me to think it would be easy and that I wouldn't need to read the manual

Since I couldn't remove the motor, I sat on a blanket and used a toothbrush on the front of the motor, along with some mineral spirits and orange degreaser.
It's a disgusting mess.

I have most of my maintenance items in, such as new brake pads, wheel bearings and fork seals.

I'm taking the forks from the F3 and swapping on the F2 lowers.
I hope to start on that tonight, after removing the F2 forks and front wheel.

I also finally dropped the F3 motor. I need to make room in my garage for a car to be parked in it soon, so dismantling the F3 and storing its parts off to the side is needed.
I wanted to pull apart the F3 motor and inspect the crank, until I found this.

That is a CHUNK of rod bearing I found in the oil pickup.
This would mean the crank and rod journals are trashed, which means no point in my taking a look. I have someone local that might buy the motor as is, but if not, then I'm parting out the good stuff on it.

But after dropping the F3 motor, I no longer feel like dropping the F2 motor :P
I'm going to try and clean it as much as possible while still in the frame. The front part of the motor has grease and oil caked on. I don't know if it was from the valve cover leaking or o-rings from the oil cooler.
I may not know until I first ride it.

Wow, that is a massive chunk! I thought I had it bad with a few flakes but it was nothing compared to that. Sorry, Existenz_is!

My new helmet from Bikebandit came in.

I walked around the house with it...just because safety.

I also ordered a fairing kit for the bike....

Supposedly it's injection molded. If so, then it might fit ok. If it's compression molded then I will need to modify it a bit.
I actually have 3 oem side fairings. One right and two left. Hoping I can make a little bit from selling them.

I put the stator cover back on my F2 motor last night. It's one from the F3 and in better shape. Can you believe it took me about an hour?
Half of that was cleaning gasket off, the other half was trying to line it up right.

As someone who has spent hours on getting the gaskets off and still isn't finished I can totally believe you, hehe.

I feel your pain
the biggest problem I had was lining up the dowels or pins on the stator cover.
I was worried about breaking or tweaking that long one.
That and it was always crooked. I thought I would have it lined up, but it would be wrong. Then the magnet would suck the cover on and I would fight that.
:P
First time for everything I guess.
Hopefully It won't be as hard when I have to do it again.

I still have the oil pan and timing chain cover, but I'm leaving the clutch cover alone :P

Oh, good tip. I haven't got to the stator cover yet, and after your description I'm not really looking forward to it either .
