Question Q: attaching the stock end can when you don't have the packing thingy?

Hi guys

First of all thanks for continuing to watch these cheesy vids and for all your comments and ideas, they really help me out not only in tackling the tasks I attempt but also in motivating me to pop down to my smelly little shed most evenings. I do read as many of the posts on here as I can even if I don't always make a comment and in doing so learn much more about this brilliant bike than if I only bothered with my own stuff.

Anyways, I'm putting a stock muffler back on but don't have the proper packing tube to fill out the gap between the slip-on and the end of the headers. Hard to explain but you'll get my drift in the vid. How would you get around this problem and/or what do you do when putting on an old end can and have a gap between exhaust and muffler?

Any help much appreciated Thanks again and you are awesome!

hey thanks man that's a really good idea. Since I didn't have anything laying around like that I've managed to get the proper gasket for a reasonable price so hoping to have a look at the job soon. I didn't realize the seal isn't metal but a composite of steel wool and graphite to give it shape etc.

I've seen people use cut beer cans for a gasket. I don't think you need to make up the full 5mm difference. There should be some flex there. Keeps your headers from cracking.

hey guys thanks for your responses. I'm gonna make a collar to go over the gaps of the slip on cuz I don't have the proper clamp but am using strong hose clips instead. I could make that out of a beer can ha ha It's nice to see what the exhaust should really look like from dave's pics. am very jealous will have a stab at the job this weekend if the man-flu is gone. take care dudes

Jegs has sheets of exhaust gasket for cheap, cut a strip and youre good. I used an rc51 pipe and there was a gap like that and it sealed it great.

Default Running nice with the new/old stock end can on

Hey Guys

So I kicked up the old girl to see what she would sound like with the stock exhaust. I think she seems happier with a more restricted exhaust as the jets are stock 108s. I really like the sound too - a bit quieter plus I've got that piece of mind that it's got it's factory stamp on it so the cops can't do anything about the racket

Got an air filter coming in the post so can't wait to stick that in too.

Take care

Default Fairings on and other stuff...

Hey folks,
Just what I did over the last few days...

Questions for you:

1. When I sprayed the tank I left on the petcock just covered it up really well. Now it stops gas coming out at 12 o'clock but seems good at 1 o'clock off and reserve are good. D'you think it'll be okay?
2. Tank decal - big honda word or honda wing/little word and in white?

Cheers

Default Kinda off-topic: project end - do I ride it or do another?

Okay guys

So I apologise in advance if I inadvertently offend anyone with the idea of selling my bike after working on her for so long but...

This week I got my bike tested and it passed! So I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself. So now I've gotta decide if I should ride it for the season or sell on and do another? What would you do?
