Default What carbs will fit the 1989?

Just wondering whether later model carbs will fit the 1989 CBR600F. Mine are in rough shape as I picked up a long stored bike. I have found some F2 carbs for sale pretty cheap and am wondering whether I should buy them.

Thanks for your help.

Carbs for 87-90 F1's are on Fleabay all the time. You should be able to pick up a set for your bike. A quick search on Fleabay turned this up: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/87-CB...Q5fAccessories

none other than stock. reason is throttle diameter is larger and the complete rack of 4 carbs is longer. stock throttle diameter is 32 or 33mm. even if you could find a set of carbs that fit, you couldn't use any model past the f4 since the models after that are efi.

i have been told that carbs from a yamaha fzr600 around the same years would fit but have never verified it myself. never bothered given that stock carbs come up on ebay every so often.

how rough are your current carbs? i've seen pretty bad ones that with a bit of time and effort have been rebuilt quite nicely.

So does this mean that the carbs from F2 and up will fit the original 600F? That would be helpful.

you didn't read the first reason:

throttle diameter is larger and the complete rack of 4 carbs is longer.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. Wasn't sure which carbs you meant when you said they had a longer rack. I will search ebay for a stock set.

I guess ebay would be your best choice for a new set of carbs. They come up all the time.

The problem is the price for parts. A complete rebuild kit runs over $300, float seat and needle sets run $45 each from Honda, as low as $35 each online and there are four of them. I don't know that the rebuild kit contains these so we are looking at big bucks for a bike that isn't worth that much. Taking into account that I have already bought a battery, a new chain and sprockets, all the tuning stuff like oil and spark plugs, I think I have almost $700 in parts into the project. We are rapidly approaching the value of the bike if it were running perfectly.

get used to it. there are really no inexpensive or cheap solutions. the longer you keep the bike the more it will cost you. i know, i've had mine almost 10 years and i've surpassed way beyond what i got it for. for that kind of scratch, i could've gotten something much better but i like my hurricane and thus am willing to put the money in to keep it going. these days it's not much more than oil changes and tires. to put it another way i spend $200/yr on oil and filters and another $200 in tires and another $150 for chain and sprocket kits, that's $550/yr in maintenance. multiply that by almost 10 years and that's more than twice what i paid for the bike. include insurance and registration and it goes up a bit more. throw in the yearly tuneups and - whoop- there it is. in fact, i've surpassed what the bike cost new back in '89.

Yeah, I won't mind so much when it's routine maintenance, its the getting the bike running part that is hurting. When I could have gone out and bought one that ran just fine for less than what I could be approaching in expenditures if I continue with this project. Good thing I'm not in a hurry so I can wait around for good deals on what I need.
