Valve Clearance ?s

OK, so we got the head off and the valves are too tight. The exhaust clearance is supposed to be .18 to .22 and they are reading .08. Intake is supposed to be .14 to .18 and is also reading .08.
The pinging was coming from the top left of the motor for sure....when it started pinging, it was immediate, i was riding and it just started out of nowhere. over the next 2 days i rode just a little bit to check the symptons and it continued to get worse, it originally only was pinging at 4-6K but is now pinging always.
Here is what I need to know....
If it is the valve clearance causing the pinging, is it possible for it to have started pinging like it did, or would it have been a more gradual build up to the pinging?
AND
If all the valves are out of clearance spec is it possible for the motor to only ping on one side?

it is possible for extreme carbon buildup on the valves to throw clearances off. Also, carbon tends to make an engine ping. run some techron through it and see what happenes.
Sea foam is also good. I would also change plugs. Make sure when you set the clearances that the engine is cold. A warm engine will read tighter clearances.

i agree with demon mang...it's odd that bad clearance would all of a sudden happen and then cause ping so quickly. i'm thinking bad gas or something....i know many bike valves not in spec but didn't cause mad pinging...or any pinging, just bad chatter.
you know...i bunch of ***** that bought my supercharged tahoe took it to mexico...it didn't ping down there...is their gas better than ours? no...probably all the H20 in the gas...hahahha i'm not saying run water injection or whatever...just a story.

I run 0.09 on the exhaust and 0.08 intake, she rattles a little at idle but runs real well !
Where did you get your valve spec's?
