Pretty sure it does. its the manual I've been running off of since I got the Hurricane, and been fixing various things. Probably lists how to test the R/R in there under the charging system section.

You can check the resistances of the pulse generator with an inexpensive multimeter. ($10-$15 )
That would be cheaper to test them first before you buy. If everything either works or all of a sudden doesn't work then it looks like a loose connection or bad component. You only need a multimeter and some patience and persistance to find the problem. Then you can buy whatever you need to fix it and know that you are not guessing. Good luck, I have a factory manual with really good schematics and diagrams. Repost and let's see if we can figure this out.

+1 on proper diagnosis. you can do EVERYTHING a shop does yourself for less with the appropriate tools. and a good mechanic(even if they are shadetree variety) knows a good troubleshooting diagnostic is the only way to reduce overall spending instead of throwing random parts at it until you've fixed the problem.

The manual is free, the multimeter for checking volts and ohms is generally fairly inexpensive, at around $10-30 for a fair quality piece, which makes most troubleshooting quite simple to me.

It don't matter what bike or car you have. You will always come back to the place you are in now. I have had high end BMW cars. My mates have had high end bikes. We all end up scratching our chins thinking the same way you are. As long as it's not your main mode of transport, take your time. "It's only nuts and bolts". E-bay is a great place to buy parts if your not in a rush. You have all winter to sort it. I get plenty of stuff at below £1. Surf e-bay once a week, and watch for the bits you need. Then bid in the last 5 seconds. Never be tempted to add a bid before, and let them go if they go above what you want to pay. It feels great when you get the bit you want.
My advice would be to start with the full work through. Start by looking at the colour of all your plugs. They can tell you loads about how the bike is running. Consult your manual on what they should look like. Follow any clues from that if you get any. Might be carbs. Never rule anything out. Test for a spark. Simple. Put a plug against the engine. With the HT in place. Let go though or you might be in for a shock. If there is no spark. Start with a new plug. then work your way back. Use a multimeter along the way. Check wires, plugs, fuses. I once fixed a bike that had not run for 6 years. It had a short on the points. Found it by testing the parts. My mate thought it was voodoo.
