hi guys i have a 600f1 89 and im having an issue when ridding when opening the throttle to full and allowing the bike to pick up it splutters as i get higher up the rpm now im running open fitters 4 separate ones reason being is i cant refit the air box see pic, now ive not touched any thing so im assuming its still running the original jets which i think are 105 any help would be great

That stubby can and pod filters might necessitate a re-jet.

If the carbs have been taken apart before or not properly maintained by the PO, it could need a good deep clean and sync.

im thinking uping the main jet from 105 to 120 and pilot from #35 to #40 see if that helps its not overly bad but you can here it struggling as in fuel starvation if you stay around the mid range it flys pulls off like a bullet from standing start its just when crusing round town it splutter a little not bad but more so when on main jet high rpm

Definitely a rejet is in order. I had a helluva time with my old ninja with the pod filters... Maybe the needles?

You'd probably have to shim them at least!

On some of the bandit forums though, they swear up and down that you need the "re-shaped" needles from a dynojet kit in order to get the fueling correct and that shimming them will not work. I don't know if the baby 'cane would be the same.

However, it's not like normal Pods where they're completely out in the open as they'd be under the tank. Some guys on older bikes would wrap plastic around their filters in order to get a more uniform flow.

You need a serious rejet to compensate for the increased air flow and exhaust. The stock carbs do best with a box so the internal slides can have some vacuum built up to open. My suggestion is the dynojet kit with new needles with adjustable heights, jets, etc. DO NOT DRILL the inner slide until you make sure it needs it. The kit says to drill it, but without an airbox to help build vacuum you need to see if it is going to work correctly without first.
After you rejet, read this and tune it for max power.

Looking at your carbs, do you have any velocity stacks in there at all? or just pod filters?
