could be something as simple and corrosion inside the start button / run stop switch. This happened to me a few weeks ago. I opened to switch and sprayed it down with contact cleaner and it fired right up.

start at the batter first, make sure it is charged, check terminal ends. Make sure you are getting all the power to the starter, try to start it. If It clicks and doesn't start I would think that would be the solenoid/ starter. Also the starter could be hung up on the flywheel if you tried to start her with low voltage, a light tap or too on the main body of the starter will get it unhung if it is infact hung up. If it doesnt start after that you could either, take the starter off and get it tested (not sure how hard it is to get off) or try cleaning the contacts in the switch like someone suggested above. Either way double check all your contact especially those on your battery and starter and that should get you headed in the right direction.

I agree with lloydiecbr. Regulator/rectifier is a known problem on these bikes. Check all connectors as well that connect to the R/R.

I would say its a loose connection..

When a connection breaks and reconnects it will cause the rev counter to do this.. happened to mine!

Take your fairings and tank off, go over all of the connectors unplugging them - check for corrosion and clean with WD40..

Then if all ok so far.. start the bike up and wiggle all of the wires on the bike one by one.. this should help find a poor contact..

Double check the battery and solenoid wires and connectors especially...

Good luck!

Does the starter turn over the bike and not fire or nothing happens when you push the start button?
