i dont know if you guys know about this but i bet all we have those ugly faded handlebar switches, like mine:



you can find used switches but they are not much better then those..

i found on ebay from china original fit new switches:

they are described like universal but i can confirm that those are original fit.

Also i found rear brake cylinder which is also original fit:

Wov. Those switches are cheap. For that price the quality can't be the best possible. I wonder if those symbols will last very long? Maybe the internal components can be swapped from the originals if they fail on these cheap ones?

I'm going to buy those too anyway. Doesn't hurt my wallet too much if they are useless

Red symbols would have been a lot cooler than white.

 

yess u are right quality is not best, when u open them u will see, for example for turn signals shime is of plastic and otiginal honda switches are metal but i changed them u can do also that.. also i forgot to say that wires are all there but positions must be changed, i can take picture of my if someone have problems..

I got myself these switches few months ago, but only had a quick glimpse at them at the time. Today I finally had a closer look and compared them to originals. Oh man, they are c**p.

Well, they are black but casings are still very ugly, because all the edges are so sharp. Low/high beam switch is like some sort of PCB micro switch. I doubt how it could handle needed currents. Turn signal switch is useless too. I'm pretty sure it would break with minimal use.

So I will rather use original yet faded switches. There are still some NOS originals available, but unfortunately I have more important things to spend my €€€'s.

Has anyone tried to restore the originals with some vinyl dye liquid? I have tried many different black waxes and bumper shines. All of them have worn off in a couple of weeks.

 

The reason the restore liquids don't work is because the housings are molded in glass reinforced plastic. There isn't much polymer (plastic) on the surface because of the glass fibers. It's common for this type of plastic to dull from exposure to the elements and sun.

There is a technique using a heat gun (high temp type) to melt the surface of oxidized plastic to restore the surface. I have tried it on some of these housings with not very good results but the one I tried it on was assembled so maybe didn't get it hot enough. I plan on trying again to see if there is any merit because almost every set I have is oxidized.'

 

Mothers black restore. It will take 5-10 applications spaced out over a single summer, but it will go black and stay black for about 3-4 years before it starts to fade again.

 

I have tried heat gun too, without noticeable results. I think if I had used more heat it would have burned or melted the plastics permanently.

Maybe I will try Mothers' stuff some time. So far my favorite sealant for regular plastics is Gtechnic C4 trim restorer. It's really amazing compared to any other sealants I have tried. Anyways it's completely useless to handlebar switches
