1990 CBR 600 for $350. Wondering if this is a good deal? Needs restoration like, new tank, rebuild motor, new seat, mirrors, fairings in okay condition. He says the motor turns with good compression.

 

Not unless you have access to spare parts and are a decent mechanic. A 28 year old bike that doesn't run is a crapshoot....

 

Yea it is pretty old.. no i don't have access to a spare bike and i'm handy, i figure i can research the fixings.

She'll need a chain, seat, battery, carb cleaning, new tank, and probably a couple hundred else in small items we can't see. She's been stored outside, so probably dry rot on the tires, some bad switches and that makes wheel bearings, fork seals, and brakes possible action items too. It's not looking good for that little 600. I don't think you'd be able to get it streetable for less than a grand. The tank's gonna be about half the budget

$350 is overpriced for a non-runner with rust on the tank. If I'm trailering it home, I never pay more than $200. See if he'll take fifty bucks. If the motor turns easily by hand, or if it's been cared for, you can talk about a hundred. If he's firm on that price, walk. There's plenty of fish in the sea. Just my 2c

 

Exactly. This one is a project that will be a money pit.
Spend a bit more and get something you can ride now with just a little love.

 

Wish I'd read this post before I bought the bike that I am currently trying to get running well enough to get rid of. :-)
