I just replaced the lower cowlings on both sides and the inserts and the wind screen on mine and the total was $1374 then i had to paint all of the plastics as none of them matched so add another $250 for paint and sandpapper ( i used automotive paint ) and did it my self in a friends garge .

Depends on your patience level and adroitness at finding deals on e-bay/craiglist.

Hard to even ballpark, since you don't mention what bike you have and/or pictures
to judge by.

Restore? Good question. There are a few good parts bikes out there you can pick up for under $500. The problem is most of them are in similar condition to what you already have. I bought my first Hurricane in 1987 and still have it. I have bought three more for parts/projects. So far I managed to keep three runners and stripped one completely for parts. Keep your eyes open and deals pop up. Good Luck.

would say if you have the patience and a bit of mechanical common sense ,these bikes are well worth restoring , you can pick up some nice ones for donor parts quite cheap,if you have the time to look around ,got my cbr1000f last year and slowly working through it ,but wouldnt part with it ,were honda at their best i think for build quality and engineering ,but dealer only parts can be expensive ,do it properly first time and these bikes will last
