Talking Rear Rim... Bigger!

Hi all.

I was after a bigger rim so i can bag 160 sized tyres for free to do some stunt practice and make some smoke! My friend happened to have a Hyosung GT250 rear rim for sale with spacers, disc and sprocket. I removed my slightly bent rim (another reason to swap) and the hyosung rim looked like it was gonna just fit out of the box so to speak... it almost did!! I just needed to file away a mm or 2 from the inside of the caliper mount to make space for a slightly larger disc, then used the original hurricane sprocket side spacer with a 2mm washer to space the caliper mount dead centre, and cut a few mm off the original hyosung sprocket side spacer to space the sprocket side perfectly in line with the gearbox sprocket. The hyosung wheel axle fits with no issue through the swingarm holes/chain adjusters but is a little too long so i will cut some more thread into it to allow the nut to tighten onto the swingarm... I will get a custom made spacer for the disc side to replace the honda+washer setup i have but for now it looks like its gonna work great!! (waiting for a new 55T sprocket before i button it all up) .. its a little heavy but fatter rubber here i come!!

I run a 160 rear on my Cane. It fits with the stock rim. You just need to remove some pieces, parts, etc. I had to upsize the front slightly as well to get it to still handle normally.

Looks good but you should get some rubber on there to make sure it all fits.

I read everywhere that a 160 on a stock rim will make the tyre crown and collapse a bit on corners and its not safe... But either way, wider rim is better for stunts and if the arm and chain allow, the rim can take bigger than 160 I think. I'm gonna run whatever I find for free as its a stunt/street fighter, not going for high speed cornering on it

Dennis, the tape measure says the rubber will fit.. But yeah need to wrap the rim in something to be sure will post more pics as I go.. Got at least a week before the chain and sprockets arrive, so will be on the lookout for rubber in the meantime. Summer is coming, wanna get this sorted asap now!!

Will probably be fine with the 160 but I always want everything in place when I do mods like this to be sure, particularly when you need spacers.

Well its been a while waiting for parts... But finally she's on the road again!! 55t rear sprocket and new chain on the bigger rim. Got a 150 tyre on there but plenty of space for a 160 or even bigger.
