paint help
 

for those who have painted there bike with automotive paints.
what paint did you use and how did you do it in a heated room without it blowing up from the fumes ? I am getting ready to paint mine but it is really cold here and i cant heat up the garage without a fire .

come on guys i know someone out there must have a sugestion or 2 . Any help would be greatly apreciated .

Ok well i have the plastick's sanded primed sanded and 2 coats of white paint on them and i am in the process of wet sanding them now to put the 3 rd and final coat of white paint on them . then i have to mask it off to paint the black on them then i have to put the 4 coats of clear on it . will be a buisy nexed 2 or 3 days .

Sorry for the lack of response, but painting is a very involved process that has been
discussed before. If you do a search (either here or the web in general) you'll find a lot
of tips on technique. It sounds like you're on the right path, with the general direction
you're going. Patience is the key here. When masking, shoot a clear coat after the
mask is applied to prevent bleeding under the mask, then the next color.

As far as the heat issue, I use a oil-filled radient electric heater. To keep my garage in
the 60's I set the thermostat and leave it on all of the time. Otherwise it will struggle
to get it up to the desired temp. With a radient heater there is no flame, so ignition
isn't an issue.

thanks mad that is what i am using for heat . and thanks for the heads up on the paint layering i didnt think about that . but i am now thanks to you , that was a great heads up .

Do it on something for practice to get the technique down before you have a go at your baby. Practice is a good thing. ;-)

Also, try a search on you-tube for some good paint video how-to's.
I keep flip-floping on the urban camo for my baby.

i have been in the millitary for the last 21 years and i am tired of cammo . so not on my bike lol . besides i just got back from Iraq for the 5th time and i am looking forward for a change . but anyways thanks for the info on the paint how 2's and the you tube ideas .
