overheating issue

i have tried everything i can think of. to stop the bike from overheating. then someone told me to pull the thermostat off then run the bike and see if it overheats. If it doesnt then the thermostat is bad. but the bike still over heats rather quickly. any ideas? please help.

what have you tried?
could be as simple as needing a new radiator cap. your old one might not be holding pressure.
your radiator could be blocked. remove it, flush water through one side, see how much comes out the other. how do the outside fins look?
check the water pump, pull the cover off and make sure the impellar isn't loose on the shaft.
are you loosing coolant? external leaks? if the level drops and you dont see any leaks, it could be a bad headgasket.

well i have no leaks the only time coolant comes out is when it bubbles over in the res. the radiator cap looks good. i am not losing coolant so i do not think it is the head gasket. i know the water pump usually makes a distinctive noise when they are bad. but i will check it anyways. also i am going to flush the radiator to check the flow. so i will update in an hour or so.

the water pump wont always make a noise.
if the impellar is loose on the shaft, it means its NOT turning.

checked the water pump it had no problems. the thermostat is good. the radiator had good flow. then i checked the seal around the carbs. they were slightly loose so i tightened them to be safe. my bike stays cool about 1/4 the way up on the gauge while riding. when at a stop light the gauge will go up as far as 3/4 the way up but no farther. my fan doesnt go on at all anymore so i think im going to set it up with a on/off switch. but the bike isnt overheating anymore so i guess it was the seal on the carbs?

check the fuse for the fan

checked the fuse. its still good so i think it is the thermo switch. so i think ill bypass it. i live in sacramento and it can get pretty hot here. so it might benefit me in the summer months.
