Default new rear fairing design, maybe an f3 rear

I want to change the rear fairing of the bike some, I like what ras122 (http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/230317.aspx) did with the RR fairing, but i was thinking about going with the f3 rear. Has anyone else done this? Or would it not be worth it. I only have seen pictures so i don't know how much modifications it will take to get the tail to match up.

how much work do you want to put into it?

is there any motorcycle salvage yards near you that you can go to? busted up parts are a good starting point to see if things fit.

Check out this F1 rear end Mod

I would love to be able to do that to mine. Although that probably required a new subframe as you can see there are different rear pegs and exhaust mount. looks sweet as hell though.

EDIT: SORRY, DIDNT EVEN LOOK AT YOUR LINK, FUNNY, SAME BIKE; 2 PLACES.

read what this guy did to his ride and it may give you some insight as to how you can do something like this to yours.

http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/187887.aspx

he and this guy (http://bikepics.com/members/ras122/89cbr600/) are using the stock subframe and the same rear plastics. except one uses the 600rr rear fender and the other uses fender eliminator.

the blue bike is using side covers from a 03/04 600rr trimmed to fit that gap left between the rear cowl and gas tank. you'll see the gap on the burgundy bike. also, using pegs from f4.

hmmm, what else...

if you want to use f3 rear end, it's probably not too much work seeing as how honda had kept the subframes for 87-98 models almost the same. the f4's and later are complete redesigns.

and check out this one: http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/178307.aspx

or this one: http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/151544.aspx

and another: http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/158135.aspx

and another: http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/153094.aspx

and this should really give you a good idea: http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/147185.aspx

or you likey this one: http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/128072.aspx

you like ducati ***-end: http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/143412.aspx

hope these help.

Thanks michigan_313. I have seen the f4i plastics post, and the 600rr. But in my opinion the both don't match the bike very well. The 600rr tail looks great, but the front of the bike is made up of curves, while the rr tail is has more shap edges. I was thinking about a small update to the tail, something more that matches the current design, like the f3 tail.

I was looking into this, because, like a lot of other people i bet, the tabs keep breaking on the back of my bike. I just got a friend to reinforce them with fibeglass, so hopefully they will hold. But I like the idea of a new rear end also.

well, you like everyone else with this bike has probably got some nutted bodywork. you're looking at a bike that has, if an '87, almost 20 years on it. and plastics don't hold up well after being hit, removed for maintenace, and etc. so, really no big deal if tabs start cracking off, hairline fractures start showing up, and little bits of edges are missing. one probably puts more work into the maintenance of bodywork than anything else if the bike is running well. believe me, when i got mine, i had to repair alot of tabs broken off, alot of abs glue and fiberglass.

my plastics are actually in fairly good shape relatively speaking. but even i would like to update the look a bit. i've picked up quite a few ideas looking around. just have to research fitment carefully.

but in reference to the overall shape of the bike, yes, i agree it is on the curvy side, but a comet is also curvy...at the front and pointy at the back. eh? but i suppose to each his own.

good luck on that f3 should you go that route. would like to see what the outcome is.
