Default New owner of 1987 600f- restoration

Hey guys , a friend of mine got a new bike and has given me his old 600f for free !
I’ve had it for two days and completely stripped it down , it’s sat for two years out side with no cover so as you can imagin it’s filthy,

Looking good - for a freebie it's looking great :-)

Here's hoping the engine's still sweet.

yes so he said he bought it for 1500 drive it for a year then the mot ran out so he left it and never touched it again , needed new chain and steering bearing adjustment and he didn’t have any money to do it and mot it, so just left it , I bought new battery new oil, coolant, and fuel , can’t get the tank open , so ran the fuel line in to a Jerry can , but has no exhaust on , I just wanted to start it , but it wouldn’t spark so I think I need to get some new spark plugs in her , it was basically making a bubbling noise dust shot out of rasch exhaust hole ,1,2,3,4 but it never started just bubbling noise , so I think get new sparks and go again,

Could be new plugs but possibly corrosion in the wiring harness???

Yes I’ve had a look over the bike and it’s disgusting filthy , but I’m doing sections and just brushing everything down and using some multi spray and getting everything clean undone the front end all the electrics , and to be fair the bike has ain’t been in a crash or had anything wrong with it , just no love ,

what you thinking prices for these are , full mot and a full service all cleaned up

I thought maybe a grand? Obv if I do more work as in spraying panels and more costmetiv stuff I think it would push it up but as running , everything working , everything serviced and a log of all works fine any thoughts??

New sparks will only fix if you’re getting output from coils. Test those 1st.

No spark is probably safety interloc circuit: sidestand, clutch, neutral switch all must be working properly.

Yes I managed to get the tank open last night , and battery in charge all night so before work I’ll take a video and see if it turns over, it sounds like mr bubbleworks because the exhaust is off, don’t know if that is an issue, whether you need the exhaust on for some back pressure 🤷‍♂️

No, they’ll start quite happily without the exhaust - I scared to bejasus out of my grandson proving that :-)

Yh then while it’s all stripped down I’ll pop off the radiator and stick in some new spark plugs, might as well do now as I will only have to strip it all back down to do it anyway
