Is my bike worthy?

I have a 1987 cbr 600 that I put 1500 miles on so far. I have a current problem with my living situation in California and need to move to Colorado. Will my bike make it? Its my only transportation. It has 38,000 miles clean oil good tires could use a new chain. Should I get a valve adjustment?

Any help is appreciated!!!!

There's not really a way for us to evaluate your bike for road worthiness. Perhaps take it to a shop and have them give it a look over, if you are unsure.

Other than the bike, are YOU ready to do that long of a ride?

Not sure but I'm very willing. My throttle hand cramps on long rides that's it. Never been over 200 miles though

If your're willing, then then do it. It will be a trip you will never forget, good or bad.

First, get the bike sound for the trip. There could be problems that pop up along the way, but do your best to prevent the ones that you know you will have.

Second, get yourself ready. Have a look around the forum. There has been discussions on taking long rides with advice and threads with trips much longer than that that have been documented thoroughly. nuttynu has a few that come to mind. thirdgenlxi is another.

Pack light and smart. You gotta be ready for anything with limited space.
Get in shape.
Plan your stops and rest. Fatigue is a killer on long trips.
Take your time. Enjoy the ride. Do it over a few days.
Have a back-up plan that could be executed from any point on your journey.
Document the ride. How many times have you gone somewhere and wished you had a picture to show? Take pics, shoot video, and put up a thread to show us your trip and the thing you encountered. Our membership is all over the world and we like to get a glimpse of places they've never been.

Hopefully this thread takes off with suggestions for you. Otherwise, start another.
